Launch of Promo Film
Last week saw the launch of our promo film at Films@59 in Bristol. Martin Elsbury, Craig and the team at Films worked hard to get it all finished in time and it is amazing. I am not in the position to put the film online just yet, but keep coming back to make sure you don’t miss it when we do.

We finally managed to film with the COMEX submersible in Marseille
The weather finally cleared to enable us to head out from Marseille on board the COMEX vessel, ‘Minibex’, in order to launch the submersible and see what is happening at the bottom of the Mediterranean. The submersible, RAMORA, is capable of descending to 600m and enabled us to see for ourselves the plastic waste that is polluting the deep oceans. As well as the submersible we also took down the ROV which had an additional Read More

Filming in Siena, Italy, with Prof. Cristina Fossi
During the Sardinia shoot we were working with Prof. Cristina Fossi who is doing research with a team of scientists into the impact of pollution on whales and dolphins. We are now here in Siena to film the results of their work. The results shocking, but sadly as we expected. All of this evidence will make a very strong sequence in our film.

Filming in Nice, France has been successful
We have managed to get some great footage so far in France. The plan had been to film the submarine but bad weather in Marseille meant that we had to have a quick shuffle around. So we drove to Nice in order to get some footage of world record free diving champion Tanya Streeter in her element ….. the ocean. The effects were stunning. Later next week we will be returning to Marseille and get Read More

Future Planet Films in Sardinia
The team were in Sardinia for a 6 day shoot working with Cetacean Biologist Prof. Cristina Fossi, who developed the ‘live biopsy’ method to gather information from whales and dolphins, using a crossbow and biopsy dart. In true filming fashion, the first few days were frustrating as the unseasonably strong winds forced the filming boats back into the safety of the marina for much of the time. Then on the penultimate morning we were up Read More

One hour before we are due to leave – and the whales turn up
You could say that it is pretty normal for natural history movie making; spending days, weeks even months waiting for that elusive creature and then it turns up on the last day. Ask anyone in the business. This shoot was no exception. We had spent 2 weeks looking for Blue Whales. In the process we had managed to get some amazing surface footage, saw large Navy surface ships get terribly close (something that we are Read More

Dolphins and Plastic Waste
Since the last sighting of whales these magnificent animals have been rather elusive! Two days ago we watched as a small pod of dolphins jumped playfully into the air between the East and West shipping lanes that hover above the deep water trench 20 miles off shore. We cannot help but wonder why the whales are not hit by the huge number of massive tankers and container ships that inexorably plough through their feeding grounds. Read More

We follow a Whale for 6 hours
Yesterday there were no whales in sight; disappointing but gave us a day to do some filming with Ben Fogle. This morning we left at 5.45 in order to get to the outer shipping lane, 20 miles out. We were lucky enough to pick up a whale pretty quickly and followed it for the best part of 6 hours getting some amazing footage. We filmed a whale underwater for the first time, but it was Read More
